All About Melbourne !
Melbourne Florida located in beautiful Brevard County in the middle of the Space Coast of Florida. Centrally located and one hour east of Walt Disney World. The city is accessed from the west by highways 192, 520, or 528; from the north and south by US-1 and Interstate I-95. A long string of Atlantic Ocean side towns and cities lie to the east of Melbourne and are accessed by three primary causeways that cross the Indian River.
Melbourne Florida is home to several fun and interesting attractions which include the Brevard Museum of Art and Science and the Brevard Zoo. The “Historic Downtown” section of Melbourne has several blocks of cafes, ice cream parlors, antique shops, gift shops and historic buildings. Downtown Melbourne also has an attractive marina, parks, and restaurant area that is bordered by a long boardwalk and park. Endangered manatees can be viewed there as they slowly swim up and down Crane Creek. A few miles north and west of the downtown area is Wickham Park, which has a lake for swimming, riding trails, walking paths, a large playground for children, and ball fields. Nearby and over a causeway is Melbourne Beach that offers wonderful white sand beaches for swimming, sunning, diving, and surfing. The city of Melbourne has many restaurant choices and comfortable, affordable lodging, from beachside cottages to family friendly hotels and motels.
Located on the southern end of Brevard County Melbourne Florida has become a focal point for developers to build luxurious and affordable homes and condos. With the continuing local boom in real estate in Brevard County, the Melbourne area may be one of the most enticing real estate frontiers in all of Florida. The city of Melbourne offers easy access to some of Florida’s most popular beaches and numerous ocean and water activities like boating, water-skiing, kite surfing, surfing, and serves some of the best fishing on the Atlantic coastline. The beautiful Indian River separates the mainland from the barrier island. The barrier island is a narrow strip of land that is locally referred to as “beachside”. The cities and areas that make up the beaches is Sebastian, Flordiana Beach, Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Satellite Beach, Patrick Air Force Base, Cocoa Beach, and Cape Canaveral. Melbourne Florida has three access points to the beaches known as the Melbourne Causeway, Eau Gaullie Causeway, and the Pineda Causeway. Each Causeway is no more than a 10 to 15 minute drive north or south.
Major local government and independent employers and corporations include Harris Corporation, Rockwell Collins, Florida Institute of Technology, Holmes Regional Hospital, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Dictaphone, GE Transportation Systems, Florida TODAY Newspaper, Brevard Community College, and the Brevard County School Board.
